About TakeHomeDesk

We build the calculators we wished existed: fast, free, and honest about how they get their numbers.

Most paycheck calculators are black boxes. They give you a number and no way to check it. TakeHomeDesk takes the opposite approach. Every calculator on this site shows the formula it uses, links to the IRS or state document each rate comes from, and prints the date the data was last verified. If we simplify something, the page says so.

How the site is built

  • The tax data lives in versioned files, one per state and tax year, each with its sources and verification date.
  • The withholding engine is tested against the official IRS Publication 15-T tables before any page is published.
  • Calculations run entirely in your browser. We never see what you enter.
  • Pages are static and lightweight, so they load fast on a phone on a slow connection.

What we cover

Paycheck calculators for all 50 states and the District of Columbia (salary and hourly), federal income tax and W-4 withholding calculators for 2026 and recent years, and a growing set of savings, retirement, credit and loan calculators.

Independence and advertising

TakeHomeDesk is supported by advertising. Advertisers have no influence on the calculators, the data or the explanations. We do not sell financial products and we do not accept payment for placement.

Corrections

If you find a rate that looks wrong, tell us at hello@takehomedesk.com with the state and the source you are looking at. We check every report against the official publication and update the data file, with the correction date, when it is confirmed.
