How Maryland paycheck taxes work in 2026

Maryland uses a graduated schedule with 10 brackets from 2% to 6.5%. The top rate applies to taxable income above $1,000,000 for single filers and $1,200,000 for joint filers. Only the income inside each bracket is taxed at that bracket's rate, which is why the effective rate on your whole paycheck is lower than the top rate.

Before the rates apply, Maryland allows a standard deduction of $3,350 for single filers and $6,700 for joint filers and personal exemptions of $3,200 per filer and $3,200 per dependent. The calculator applies these automatically based on your filing status and the dependents you enter.
